Thai silk & Jim Thompson

Do you know the story of Thai silk? Thai silk has long enjoyed world-wide popularity because of its unique quality and beauty.

Jim Thompson, the father of Thai silk, developed new ways of design and production some fifty years ago and set Thai silk on the way to fame.

James Harrison Wilson Thompson was born in Greenville,Delaware, in 1906. As a member of the OSS during World War he had an opportunity to visit Bangkok and decided to settle down here. He set up the Thai silk industry and developed it into a world-class designer product and introduced it to the world.

The life of Jim Thompson was mysterious; he disappeared into the Malaysian jungle in 1962 and his body was never found. But the Thai silk industry he founded remains very much alive and has gone from strength to strength.

Her Majesty the Queen has made special efforts to promote Thai silk internationally and now it is a national product of which every Thai is proud.
