Loi Krathong Sai Festival

November 7-11, 2003, along the 200th-Anniversary Rattanakosin Bridge , Muang District, Tak Province

The Annual Loi Kratong Sai Festival in Tak - this year being held along the 200th-Anniversary Rattanakosin Bridge. The festival is another unique manner to celebrate the floats festival in Thailand, with a thousand of the candle-lit 'Kratongs' or floats are threaded in a long procession when being released on the Ping River, making them look like an endless necklace floating majestically on the river.

Within the festival, visitors will be dazzled of the grand opening ceremony of the festival, the magnificent procession welcoming the Royal Candle-lit Krathong, the procession of 'Krathong Sai', a contest, Kratong Sai Lady pageant, stage shows and performances, demonstration in krathong making and a 'One Tambon - One Product' (Otop) Fair.

The Royal Trophy Loi Krathong Sai

Nov 7-15, 2003, along the Mae Ping River, Tak province

Krathong floats in the shape of lotus blossoms are most popular and are made from materials easily found in each locality. Loi Krathong customs and traditions reflect local beliefs and cultural evolution and interesting regional variations can be seen. In Tak province, the banana-leaf floats are replaced by coconut shells, which are threaded together and launched simultaneously so they appear as long chains of hundreds of glittering lights on the Ping River, hence the origin of its name, 'Loi Krathong Sai'
